About / Volunteer
Walton Arts Center volunteers are a dedicated group of more than 300 individuals who commit their time, talents, and resources to ensuring that the Center is able to provide the highest level of arts experiences in Northwest Arkansas. At Walton Arts Center we strive to provide the highest quality programming available, and our volunteer program is an essential part of the quality service we offer to our patrons.
Our diverse group of volunteers represents an interesting cross-section of the Northwest Arkansas community. Though they hail from a variety of backgrounds, they all share a love for the arts and their community. They provide support to virtually every aspect of operation through thousands of hours of service each year. At Walton Arts Center our philosophy towards our corps of volunteers is simple: the show could not go on without them!
Opportunities
Front of House Volunteers work during our performances and special events, doing everything from taking tickets and ushering to serving concessions and checking coats. Front of House volunteers also assist our education programs by ushering during education shows.
Administrative Volunteers assist with bulk mailings, phone calls, typing, filing and other administrative duties.
Studio & Education Outreach Volunteers work primarily at Nadine Baum Studios during programs that include the AWE Institute. They also assist in the studios during community classes, spring break & summer camps.
Gallery Volunteers assist in the Joy Pratt Markham Gallery, greeting patrons and offering information about the various exhibitions.
Training
All volunteers are required to attend an orientation session before making the decision to join the team. The orientation sessions are designed to inform prospective volunteers about policies and procedures, plus details about opportunities. New volunteers are paired with seasoned veterans for "on the job" training for the first few shows. Seasoned volunteers are also required to attend a training session once a year in the summer as a "refresher" course.
During the annual training sessions policies and procedures are reviewed and new programs or policies are also introduced. Training sessions might also have a particular focus, such as safety or customer service. In addition, the training sessions provide an opportunity for volunteers to receive a sneak peek for the upcoming season.
Recognition
Every year Walton Arts Center honors our volunteers during Volunteer Appreciation Night. During this special evening, awards are given based upon years of service and number of hours, plus The Volunteer of the Year Award. In addition, Walton Arts Center recognizes volunteers throughout the year with a complimentary ticket program that allows volunteers to work up to receiving tickets to shows that are presented by the Center. Volunteers are often highlighted in Bravo, the monthly newsletter for volunteers. Walton Arts Center is always looking for additional ways to recognize our volunteers for their dedication and faithful service.
